U2

U2. They are one of my favorite bands. They have made lots of good songs and they are from Dublin. That is in Ireland for those of you who don’t know where Dublin is. Their songs though are about things going on today. Like their song “The Saints are coming” featuring Green Day, is about Hurricane Katrina. The song “Sunday Bloody Sunday” was written because of two bloody incidents in Ireland. The first was in 1920 when a group of British soldiers fired into a crown during a football match in Dublin because somebody killed British undercover agents and the British got mad. The second incident and the one more pertaining to the song happened on January 30, 1972 when British Paratroopers (surprised it’s the Brits?) killed 13 Irish civilians because they wee at a civil rights protest in Derry Northern Ireland. They also have a song called “Pride” (also called “In the Name of Love”) which talks about people who have died throughout history because the believed and preached about the equality of men. And it definitely talks about MLK in the last few verses. Another song called “Beautiful Day” was written about a man who looses his Earthly possessions and becomes happier as he realizes the meaning of life.
